According to a special weather bulletin for internal river ports valid from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the regions of Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, and Sylhet are likely to experience storms originating from the west or north-west.

The storms are expected to be accompanied by rain or thundershowers. In light of the volatile weather, river ports in the affected areas have been advised to hoist Cautionary Signal No. 1. Meteorologists have urged all types of vessels to navigate with extreme caution to avoid accidents.

Rainfall Outlook The forecast valid until 9:00 AM today indicates that many places across the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. Additionally, light to moderate rain is expected in parts of the Rangpur and Barishal divisions.

Impact on Agriculture and Hope for Farmers The continuous heavy rain and storms over the past few days have caused significant damage to crops nationwide. In the Haor regions particularly, rising river levels and waterlogging have submerged ripened paddy fields, causing immense distress to farmers.

However, the BMD offered a glimmer of hope, predicting a primarily dry spell starting from May 10, which could last for more than 10 days. From May 7 to May 18, there is a strong possibility of prolonged sunny weather. This anticipated sunshine is expected to be crucial for farmers to dry their harvested paddy and salvage damaged crops.
