On Monday, April 27, 2026, while the capital city of Dhaka witnessed a play of sun and clouds, a cooling breeze prevailed over a significant portion of the country. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), this trend of precipitation is expected to continue until May 3, ruling out the possibility of any new heatwaves during this period. Due to the formation of deep convective clouds over the northern regions and adjacent areas, a forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for the Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions for the next three days.

During the last 24 hours, rainfall was recorded at 29 out of the 51 observation stations across the country, with Tangail recording the highest at 58 mm. In the capital, 41 mm of rain was recorded in the 24 hours leading up to 7:00 AM today, causing the minimum temperature to drop to 21°C—approximately 5 degrees lower than the previous day. According to meteorological standards, rainfall between 44 mm and 88 mm is classified as "heavy," while anything exceeding 88 mm is "very heavy." This intense rainfall has raised concerns about temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas of the northern regions and Sylhet.

Meteorologist Dr. Md. Bazlur Rashid stated that an extension of a low-pressure system stretches from West Bengal to the North Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, temporary gusty or squally winds along with thunderstorms are likely to occur in many places within the Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, as well as parts of Rajshahi and Chattogram. The heatwave that began on April 20 is currently lingering mildly over Rangamati, Bandarban, and Lakshmipur, but it is expected to subside today. The forecast further indicates that daytime temperatures may drop slightly across the country, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.
