In a special bulletin released on Friday, April 24, 2026, the department announced that the ongoing heatwave will begin to subside from April 26, with widespread rainfall expected across the country starting April 27.

The weather office predicted that temporary gusty or squally winds, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, are likely to occur in parts of Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions from April 26. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also anticipated in some areas of Rajshahi, Chittagong, and Sylhet, which will lead to a significant decrease in both day and night temperatures.

Currently, a mild to severe heatwave is affecting a large portion of the country, leading to increased health risks such as dehydration and heat-related illnesses. Meteorologists attribute the extreme heat to high levels of moisture in the Bay of Bengal and low activity of Western disturbances. The upcoming pre-monsoon storms (Kalbaishakhi) are expected to bring the mercury down to tolerable levels by early next week.
