The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) of the Water Development Board (BWDB) announced on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, that this rapid rise in water levels has triggered a short-term flood risk for at least five districts, including Netrokona and Moulvibazar. The situation is being driven by a combination of onrushing mountain runoff from upstream and intense local precipitation.

According to latest forecasts, the water level of the Bhugai-Kangsha river in Netrokona district is flowing 82 cm above the pre-monsoon danger mark. In the same district, the Someshwari river is flowing 50 cm above the limit, while the Magra river has crossed the mark by 2 cm. Meanwhile, in Moulvibazar, the Manu river has surpassed its pre-monsoon danger level by 72 cm. Water has already begun entering low-lying areas along these riverbanks, posing a significant threat to local agricultural lands and residential settlements.

The Water Development Board has warned that if the current rainfall pattern persists, the flooding situation could deteriorate further. Following a heavy morning downpour in the capital, the Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for Kalbaishakhi (Nor'wester) storms across 20 districts by this evening. Respective district administrations and disaster management departments have been placed on high alert, and residents in riverine areas have been advised to move to safer locations as a precautionary measure.
