Signal 3 Issued for Four Maritime Ports Amid Storm Warnings
According to a bulletin signed by meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2026, the ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist the signal. In light of the turbulent sea conditions, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been directed to stay close to the coast and proceed with extreme caution until further notice.
Simultaneously, a severe threat of Kalbaishakhi (Nor'wester) storms looms over 13 districts, including the capital, Dhaka. The meteorological office predicts that intense gusty winds accompanied by rain or thunderstorms may sweep through these regions between dawn and 1:00 PM today. Based on the intensity of the projected storms, the regions have been categorized into two tiers. For Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet, where winds from the west or north-west could reach speeds of 60 to 80 km/h, river ports have been advised to hoist Riverine Warning Signal No. 2.
In contrast, the regions of Dhaka, Tangail, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar are expected to experience wind speeds ranging from 45 to 60 km/h. Consequently, Riverine Cautionary Signal No. 1 has been issued for the river ports in these ten districts. Meteorologists warned that these seasonal Kalbaishakhi storms can intensify rapidly within a very short period. Given the emerging situation, watercraft operating on river routes have been urged to remain vigilant, and residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary safety precautions before noon.
