However, in a contrasting development, the department also forecast gusty winds and thunderstorms for six divisions over the next 24 hours. The bulletin, released at 9:00 AM on Monday, April 20, 2026, suggested that both day and night temperatures may rise slightly nationwide.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Forecast According to the BMD, temporary gusty winds and lightning-accompanied rain or thunderstorms are expected in:

  • Mymensingh and Sylhet: At many locations.

  • Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Chittagong: At one or two isolated locations.

The weather office also warned of scattered hailstorms in certain areas. Meanwhile, other parts of the country are expected to experience mainly dry weather with partly cloudy skies. This upward trend in temperature is predicted to persist through Tuesday.

Temperature and Rainfall Records Over the last 24 hours, the country’s maximum temperature was recorded in Rangamati at 36.5°C. During the same period, the highest rainfall was documented in Sylhet and Sreemangal (Moulvibazar), totaling 20 mm.

Climate Change Impact Experts note that these erratic weather patterns are increasingly visible across South Asia due to global climate change. Modern meteorological models—including those utilized by developed international organizations and NATO-member states—indicate that this combination of heatwaves and sudden, heavy rainfall could significantly impact regional agriculture and public health. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions during thunderstorms.
