‘I Will Return Tomorrow if Security is Guaranteed’: Shakib Al Hasan
Currently staying in Mumbai, India, the star all-rounder revealed in an exclusive interview that he is ready to return to Bangladesh immediately, provided the government or administration guarantees his physical safety and ensures he will not face harassment through the legal process.
Shakib stated that he is willing to face the law, appear before the court, and fight any cases against him. However, he emphasized that the assurance of security is a non-negotiable prerequisite. He remarked that if a guarantee is provided tomorrow that he will not be subjected to extra-legal harassment until the legal process concludes, he would return as early as the day after. He expressed frustration over his frozen bank accounts, noting that this financial restriction has prevented him from settling even minor issues like check dishonor cases. He also described the October 2024 incident, where he had to turn back from Dubai during an attempt to return home, as an unfortunate and unwanted situation.
Regarding his political career, Shakib remained firm in his loyalty to his party, stating that he does not have the habit of changing sides for personal convenience. Addressing his silence during the July movement, he explained that being abroad and facing internet disruptions initially prevented him from fully grasping the gravity of the situation. Furthermore, he criticized former cricket board officials for Bangladesh's non-participation in the 2024 T20 World Cup, labeling the decision a "major mistake" and a result of "political games."
