FIFA to Boost Prize Money and Development Funds for 2026 World Cup
This move comes in response to concerns raised by several national football associations regarding high operational costs, including travel and taxes, while competing in North America this summer.
Initially, FIFA had announced a record $727 million prize pool, with $50 million reserved for the champions. However, following discussions, this amount is set to rise further. Additionally, the development fund for FIFA’s 211 member nations will be increased from the previously allocated $2.7 billion. With a projected revenue of $13 billion from the 2026 cycle, FIFA aims to utilize its robust financial standing to offset the heavy tax burdens and logistics expenses faced by participating teams across various US states and host cities.
