FIFA President Infantino Firm on Iran's Participation in USA for World Cup 2026
Speaking Infantino confirmed that the Iranian squad will "definitely" go to the U.S., despite statements from Iran’s Sports Minister suggesting a possible withdrawal due to ongoing conflict and reported threats from Donald Trump regarding the "life and safety" of Iranian players.
While a temporary two-week ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan and Turkey, is currently in place between Iran and the U.S.-Israel alliance, tensions remain high. Iranian officials have repeatedly requested FIFA to shift their matches from the U.S. to co-hosts Mexico or Canada. However, Infantino has ruled out any venue changes, citing logistical constraints. He assured that stringent security measures will be in place for all Iranian players and staff, maintaining that the spirit of the World Cup transcends political hostilities.
