In a move to honor former and current leaders of the national team, the BCB has announced a unique initiative titled the "Captain’s Card." A special handover ceremony is scheduled to take place this evening, Thursday, April 16, 2026, at a luxury hotel in the capital.

Under the direct supervision of President Tamim Iqbal, the event will bring together legendary figures who have led the nation on the cricket field across different eras. According to the BCB's plan, any player who has captained Bangladesh in at least one international match will be eligible for this card. The "Captain’s Card" is designed to provide former skippers with exclusive stadium access and other VIP privileges during domestic and international fixtures.

Beyond honorary recognition, the board is also prioritizing the welfare of veteran cricketers. Discussions are underway to introduce a separate "Health Card" for former captains aged 50 and above, which will provide significant financial assistance and support for their medical treatments. This initiative is seen as a crucial step in ensuring that those who dedicated their lives to the sport are not neglected in their later years.

This move by the BCB aligns with the broader pro-sports policies recently implemented by the current government. On March 30, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman launched a comprehensive "Sports Card" and financial security program, providing grants of 100,000 BDT to 129 athletes. Under this national scheme, top-tier athletes like Sabina Khatun and Khoi Khoi Sai Marma are now receiving a monthly salary of 100,000 BDT.

Cricket analysts and stakeholders have praised Tamim Iqbal’s proactive approach, noting that it reflects international sports management standards often seen in NATO-member nations. By fostering professionalism and discipline within the board and showing tangible respect to its icons, the BCB hopes to revitalize the sporting landscape and inspire the next generation of cricketers.
