The proposal was discussed during a high-level meeting between State Minister for Youth and Sports, Md. Aminul Haque, and the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, at the Secretariat on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

The meeting focused on transforming Bangladesh's sporting landscape through strategic partnerships with Beijing.

National Sports Institute: The State Minister invited Chinese investment into the proposed National Sports Institute, which aims to become a regional hub for athletic excellence and sports science.

Elite Coaching and Training: Bangladesh is seeking high-level Chinese coaches and advanced training modules for disciplines where China excels internationally, specifically volleyball, archery, and shooting.

Football Diplomacy: In a move to strengthen bilateral ties, Minister Aminul Haque extended a formal invitation for the Chinese National Men’s Football Team to play a friendly match in Bangladesh.

Ambassador Yao Wen expressed a positive outlook toward the proposals, praising Bangladesh’s recent "Digital Sports" initiatives and its commitment to youth development.

Positive Assurance: The Ambassador signaled China's willingness to invest in youth training centers and infrastructure projects that align with the "Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership" between the two nations.

Technological Exchange: Both parties discussed the potential for integrating AI and data analytics into Bangladeshi athlete performance tracking, leveraging Chinese technological expertise.

This diplomatic push follows the Bangladesh government’s broader 2026 agenda to professionalize sports and move away from traditional management models. By securing Chinese technical support, the Ministry of Youth and Sports aims to elevate Bangladesh’s competitiveness in upcoming international tournaments and the Asian Games.
