The Minister stated that participating in a tournament hosted by a nation responsible for such actions is morally impossible for Tehran. Iran was placed in Group G alongside Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand for the tournament set to begin on June 11 across the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Their absence from last week’s FIFA planning meeting in Atlanta had already sparked rumors of a boycott. Amidst the ongoing regional conflict and the loss of thousands of lives, Tehran has opted to prioritize political stance over the sporting spectacle.
