Sports Ministry Reforms: Aminul Haque Announces 9-Point Plan to Revolutionize Bangladesh Sports
A former national football captain himself, the Minister emphasized that his primary goal is to establish sports as a sustainable and respected profession rather than just a hobby.
Under this new roadmap, the Ministry is moving to introduce a permanent salary structure for national-level athletes across all disciplines to ensure their financial security. To nurture talent from the grassroots, sports will be made a compulsory subject in the national curriculum starting from Class IV. Additionally, a special "Notun Kuri" (New Bud) scholarship program has been designed for promising young athletes aged 12 to 14.
The infrastructure plan is equally ambitious, featuring the construction of modern "Sports Villages" with indoor facilities in all 64 districts. To decentralize sports administration, the Minister has directed the establishment of sports offices in every upazila. Furthermore, the plan includes initiatives to build a domestic sports equipment industry and encourage corporate patronage, where banks and large firms will be invited to adopt specific sports federations for long-term support.
Aminul Haque also signaled a major shift in policy by vowing to keep the sports arena free from political influence, ensuring that federations are led by qualified organizers. He has already called for a consultation meeting with sports journalists this coming Sunday to discuss the implementation of these reforms.
