The position is set to become vacant as the two-year contract of current chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu expires this month. While the board reportedly had no immediate plans to part ways, Lipu has chosen to step down due to personal reasons.

He is expected to remain occupied with family commitments for the next 18 to 24 months and has formally informed the board of his intention to resign.

Following his decision, the BCB’s operations department has initiated the search for a successor, with Bashar being the first to receive an offer. Although he is understood to be open to the role, he has yet to provide formal confirmation.

Bashar previously served as a selector for the Bangladesh men’s national team from 2016 until February 2024 and had also worked with the women’s team. He is currently serving as Program Coordinator of the BCB’s Game Development Committee.
