BCB Announces Inaugural Women's BPL to Kick Off in April 2026
On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the BCB’s women’s wing confirmed that the inaugural franchise-based T20 tournament will be held from April 3 to April 15, 2026. A total of three franchise teams will compete in this groundbreaking opening season. Rubaba Dowla, BCB Director and Chairperson of the Women’s Wing, has been appointed as the President of the Governing Council to oversee the successful execution of the tournament.
According to the official plans, the tournament will feature a blend of experienced national stars and promising young talents. A player draft system will be utilized to form the squads, ensuring a competitive balance across the three teams. In addition to local players, the tournament will open its doors to international professional cricketers, providing a platform for local athletes to share dressing rooms and gain experience from global stars. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the skills and international exposure of Bangladeshi women cricketers.
While the primary dates and the number of teams have been confirmed, the BCB is yet to reveal specific details regarding the full schedule, match venues, and franchise ownership. The board announced that a formal press conference will be held soon to provide comprehensive information on these aspects. The introduction of the Women's BPL is anticipated to open new commercial and competitive horizons for women's sports in Bangladesh, marking a significant milestone in the country's sporting history.
