ICC Awards Bangladesh 2028-2031 Hosting Rights as T20 World Cup Impasse Ends
Following a high-level meeting in Lahore between the ICC, BCB, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it was agreed that Bangladesh will be awarded the hosting rights for an additional ICC tournament within the 2028-2031 cycle, prior to co-hosting the 2031 ODI World Cup.
The crisis, which began after the BCB cited security concerns for playing in India and was subsequently replaced by Scotland in the tournament, was resolved after Pakistan threatened to boycott their high-voltage match against India in solidarity with Bangladesh. Following the "cordial and constructive" dialogue, Pakistan has agreed to play India on February 15 in Colombo, while the ICC reaffirmed Bangladesh's status as a "valued Full Member" with a vibrant fanbase of 200 million. The move is seen as a strategic compensation for the BCB's recent setbacks and a recognition of their role in de-escalating the regional cricket crisis.
