Pakistan Faces Potential ₹460 Crore Lawsuit Over India Match Boycott
According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, Pakistan is scheduled to play India on February 15. Prior to this, they will face the Netherlands and the USA in the group stage. Speculations suggest that if the team, led by Aga Salman, wins these first two matches, they might consider boycotting the high-voltage clash against India. Winning the opening games would make it mathematically easier for them to qualify for the next round even without playing India.
Quoting a source, the media outlet stated, "If Pakistan secures victories in these two matches, the possibility of boycotting the game against India will become significantly stronger."
However, a report from the Indian media outlet Economic Times suggests that such a boycott could lead to a lawsuit worth ₹460 crore against Pakistan.
Additionally, Hindustan Times reported that a $3 billion broadcasting deal is in place with Jio Star Sports until the end of 2027. The ICC distributes this revenue among its member nations. If Pakistan refuses to play against India, broadcasters might seek legal damages in court due to the massive loss of revenue. Consequently, the ICC could serve a notice to the PCB, which would ultimately harm the annual revenue shares of all cricket boards.
