The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had formally proposed Sri Lanka as an alternative venue for their fixtures. However, during an ICC Board meeting held via video conference, the global governing body rejected the proposal based on three specific grounds.

First, the ICC clarified in an official press release that changing venues so close to the tournament is logistically unfeasible. Such a last-minute shift would likely cause significant organizational chaos and disrupt the overall management of the world event.

Second, the Council stated that there is no substantial evidence to support the BCB’s claims regarding security risks for their players in India. After reviewing reports from various security agencies and independent evaluators, the ICC concluded that there are no specific threats to the safety of the players, officials, or fans at the designated venues.

Third, the ICC emphasized that relocating matches without a compelling or verified security reason would damage the organization’s neutrality. Making such an exception could undermine the ICC’s future governance and set a precedent that jeopardizes the sanctity of international tournament schedules.

Before this final decision, reports suggested that the ICC might replace Bangladesh with an alternative team if the BCB did not comply with the original schedule. The ICC also addressed the recent controversy involving pacer Mustafizur Rahman and his removal from the IPL. The governing body made it clear that isolated incidents in a domestic league have no bearing on the comprehensive security structure of a World Cup.

The ICC remains firm: while they are eager for Bangladesh’s participation, it must take place on Indian soil as per the pre-decided itinerary.
