Police Detain Two After Banned Chhatra League Holds Brief Procession at TSC

The incident occurred around 6:00 AM on May 2, 2026. Following the brief demonstration, law enforcement personnel managed to detain two individuals along with a black microbus as they attempted to flee the scene.

One of the detainees has been identified as Farhan Tanvir Nasif, a student of the 2019-20 academic session at Dhaka University and the Organizing Secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of the BCL. The other individual is the driver of the microbus, identified as Rubel. According to eyewitnesses, the group arrived from the Shahbagh area, displayed banners, and chanted slogans before quickly boarding the vehicle to escape. However, security forces stationed in the area intercepted them before they could leave the vicinity.

Masud Alam, the Deputy Commissioner of the Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects are currently being interrogated at the Shahbagh Police Station. Dhaka University Proctor, Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, reiterated that the university administration remains vigilant against any activities by banned organizations on campus. He added that formal legal action would be initiated against the detained student in accordance with university regulations and national law.
