Election Commission Validates Nusrat Tabassum’s Nomination for Reserved Women’s Seat
The Chief Returning Officer of the CEC office made the formal announcement following official proceedings on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The development was confirmed by the NCP’s Office Secretary, Saleh Uddin Sifat.
The path to validation was marked by a legal hurdle after the EC initially rejected her application during the preliminary scrutiny. Although the deadline for submission for the May 12 election was April 22 at 4:00 PM, Nusrat Tabassum submitted her papers 19 minutes late, at 4:19 PM. Seeking legal recourse, she filed a writ petition with the High Court. On April 27, a High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar directed the Election Commission to accept her nomination papers, citing valid grounds for the delay.
Following the High Court's directive, the Commission officially cleared her candidacy today. The NCP has announced that a formal briefing regarding this decision will be held at the Election Commission's media center later today. The validation of Nusrat Tabassum’s candidacy adds a new dimension to the electoral equation and ensures the National Nagorik Party’s participation in the reserved seats of the 13th Parliament.
