BNP Following the Path of Ousted Fascism, Says Dr. Shafiqur Rahman
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a massive rally organized by Jamaat-e-Islami at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Political analysts view this statement as an expression of the growing tension between Jamaat and BNP in the altered political landscape following the July-August mass uprising.
Addressing the rally, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that the people of the country sacrificed their lives to build a discrimination-free and justice-based society. However, he expressed deep regret that a major political party is now acting contrary to those aspirations by clinging to the policies pursued by the previous autocratic and fascist government. He warned that no one has ever succeeded by following the path of fascism, and no one will in the future. The Jamaat chief further noted that the citizens will not tolerate any attempts to undermine public rights or establish absolute dominance.
Since morning, leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir gathered at Suhrawardy Udyan with banners and festoons from various parts of the capital. Other top leaders of the party also addressed the gathering. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman's comments come at a time of intense debate and criticism among the country's major political parties regarding elections and state reforms. His speech has generated significant curiosity in political circles as observers wait to see if there will be a counter-response from the BNP.
