BNP Expels Leader for Assaulting Teacher and Vandalizing Rajshahi College
The expulsion notice, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, was issued on Friday, April 24, 2026.
The Incident: The accused, Akbar Ali, served as the Vice President of the Joynagar Union unit of the BNP. According to witnesses, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Dawkandi Government University College while Degree second-year examinations were in progress. Despite Section 144 being in effect around the exam center, Ali and a group of supporters forcibly entered the office of Principal Abdur Razzak.
The group reportedly demanded a detailed account of the college's income and expenditures. When the administration resisted, the situation escalated into violence. The attackers vandalized college furniture and launched a physical assault on several faculty members.
Lecturer Aleya Khatun Heera, who was a primary target of the assault, alleged that local political elements had been demanding large sums of "protection money" (extortion) under the guise of auditing college funds.
"I was physically assaulted and beaten simply for protesting their extortion attempts and standing by the Principal," she stated.
Principal Abdur Razzak, Professor Rezaul Karim Alam, and two other staff members sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
The BNP’s central command acted swiftly, stating that Akbar Ali was expelled for "activities contrary to party discipline, ideals, and interests." The party clarified that his primary membership has been revoked for life.
Durgapur Police confirmed they were deployed to the campus to restore order. While no formal arrests have been made as of Friday morning, officials stated that a case would be filed as soon as a written complaint is received from the college authorities. The campus remains under heightened security to prevent further unrest.
