BNP Finalizes 36 Nominees for Reserved Women’s Seats in Parliament

Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi released the final list on Monday, April 20, 2026, following a rigorous two-day interview process conducted by the party’s national committee.

Rizvi stated that the party’s high-level nomination board finalized the list after evaluating the candidates' long-term dedication and active participation in political movements.

Prominent Leaders and Grassroots Activists The list features a blend of veteran leaders and vocal activists who have been prominent figures in recent political activities. Notable nominees include:

  • Shirin Sultana

  • Rasheda Begum Hira

  • Rehana Akter Ranu

  • Newaz Halima Arly

  • Nilufar Chowdhury Moni

  • Nipun Roy Chowdhury

  • Helen Zerin Khan

  • Shammi Akhter

  • Shakila Farzana

The list also includes younger and regionally diverse leaders such as Sansila Jebrin, Sanjida Islam Tuli, and Madhabi Marma.

Selection Process and Scale Party sources revealed an overwhelming response to the nomination call, with 1,025 nomination forms sold and approximately 900 applications submitted. The final selection of 36 was narrowed down from this large pool based on competence, past sacrifices, and leadership potential.

Political analysts suggest that this strategic selection aims to strengthen the party’s presence in the legislature. By prioritizing active and experienced female leaders, the party seeks to foster effective representation and leadership development within the parliamentary framework, mirroring modern legislative practices seen in developed nations.
