"People Must Rise to Protect National Assets": Jamaat-e-Islami Chief
Addressing a conference of district leaders in Dhaka this Friday morning, Jamaat chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman accused the current BNP-led government of betraying the people’s mandate in the 13th National Election. He alleged that massive "engineering" and election fraud were used to undermine the spirit of the July uprising.
Dr. Rahman criticized the government's attempts to amend the constitution for autocratic rule and complained that the voice of the opposition is being stifled in parliament. Announcing a new wave of protests by the 11-party alliance, he urged the public to "roar" against the looting of national assets. He also warned the media against misrepresenting his party's statements, demanding full and accurate reporting of their stance.
