BNP Leader’s House Fined Over Illegal Petrol Hoarding in Rowmari
Abu Jahan, the president of Ward No. 6 BNP under Datbhanga Union, and his family were fined Tk 10,000 for stockpiling fuel and selling it at inflated prices amidst the ongoing national energy crisis.
The raid was conducted by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Rafiqur Rahman following a tip-off. During the operation, several drums filled with petrol and various fuel-measuring tools were recovered from the cowshed. Local residents alleged that Abu Jahan’s son, Ershadul Haque—who is reportedly a local Jubo League leader—had been sourcing the fuel from various pumps to sell it secretly for as high as Tk 200 to Tk 300 per liter.
As Ershadul and his father were not present during the raid, Ershadul’s brother, Harun-or-Rashid, paid the fine on behalf of the family. While Harun claimed the fuel was intended for personal use in their family’s three motorcycles and alleged the raid was fueled by "neighborly enmity," he failed to explain why such a large volume was kept in drums within a residential area. The seized fuel has been taken into government custody, and the authorities have issued a stern warning against any future hoarding or black-marketing of essential fuels.
