Kushtia MP Mufti Amir Hamza Labels Energy Minister ‘Atheist’
Speaking at a recent gathering, the Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker launched a scathing verbal attack on the minister, leading to a sharp ideological standoff between the two political figures that has resonated across both local and national levels.
The tension reportedly ignited following a controversial statement by Minister Tuku regarding the historical slogan "Inquilab Zindabad," which he claimed was not part of the original Bengali language and culture. Mufti Amir Hamza, known for his vocal stance on religious and social issues, interpreted these remarks as a direct assault on Islamic values and heritage. In his speech, the MP argued that such views are inconsistent with the religious identity of the majority population and accused the minister of harboring secularist biases that undermine the faith of the people.
While Mufti Amir Hamza’s supporters have rallied behind his remarks, the comments have drawn mixed reactions from the political establishment. Many see this as a deepening divide between the conservative religious bloc and the liberal wing of the government. As of Saturday afternoon, neither Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku nor the Ministry of Power and Energy has issued a formal response to the specific allegations. However, the open confrontation has raised concerns about growing ideological friction within the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
