July Charter Issue: Golam Porwar Slams BNP and Government’s ‘Double Standard’

He expressed disappointment that the aspirations of the July Revolution, achieved through the sacrifices of thousands, are not being reflected in the current administration's actions. He specifically pointed out that the BNP’s retreat from its pledge to implement the charter is a betrayal of the people's trust.

Porwar further alleged that while there were promises not to challenge the July Charter, indirect legal hurdles are being created with the government's tacit support to make the matter sub-judice. He emphasized that law is for the people, not the other way around, and a majority in parliament should not be used as an excuse to ignore the charter. Proposing a solution, he urged the government to include the July National Charter in the constitutional schedule via a Presidential Order. He warned that if a resolution is not reached through proper channels, the public might be forced back onto the streets to demand their rights.
