An air ambulance from Singapore landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:10 AM and departed with the senior leader at approximately 12:00 PM. He is expected to be admitted to the Neuroscience Department of either Singapore General Hospital or Mount Elizabeth Hospital for follow-up treatment.

Medical Background and Emergency Surgery

The veteran politician’s health crisis began on the evening of Thursday, March 12 (initially reported as Wednesday/Thursday), when he suddenly lost consciousness while having Iftar. He was immediately rushed to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

  • Diagnosis: Initial CT scans revealed critical complications in the brain, prompting a virtual meeting of a high-level medical board.

  • Surgery: On Friday, March 13, Mirza Abbas underwent a complex brain surgery that lasted nearly four hours. Some reports indicated the procedure was conducted in two phases to address escalating complications.

  • Post-Operative Status: Following the surgery, he was kept under 72-hour intensive observation in the Neuro ICU. A follow-up CT scan on Saturday morning showed "positive and satisfactory" results, allowing the medical board to clear him for air travel to Singapore.

High-Level Support and Companions

Mirza Abbas is accompanied on this journey by his wife, Afroza Abbas (President of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal), and his eldest son, Mirza Yasir Abbas. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been personally monitoring the situation, visiting Mirza Abbas at Evercare Hospital on Friday afternoon and instructing authorities to ensure the best possible medical logistics. Other top leaders, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, also visited the hospital to offer their support.

The family has requested the nation to pray for his swift and complete recovery as he begins his advanced treatment in Singapore.
