This de-escalation follows the BNP’s decision to issue a "show-cause" notice to Mohammad Ashraful Islam, the president of the BNP's Ramna Thana unit, for filing a defamation case against Patawari without the party's prior authorization. In a social media post on Sunday night, March 8, 2026, Patawari thanked the BNP leadership for its disciplinary action against what he termed "over-enthusiastic litigiousness," signaling an end to the immediate political tension between the two leaders.

The friction originated from the 13th National Parliament Election results in the Dhaka-8 constituency, where Mirza Abbas defeated Patawari by a margin of 5,239 votes. Following the loss, Patawari had made several public statements alleging irregularities and criticizing Abbas, leading Ashraful Islam to file a criminal intimidation and defamation case on Sunday morning. However, the BNP high command—led by Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi—swiftly intervened, labeling the unauthorized legal move a breach of organizational discipline. Ashraful Islam has been given 48 hours to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

Political analysts view this development as a strategic move by the BNP to maintain a professional image and avoid unnecessary legal conflicts with other political parties during the post-election transition. Patawari’s decision to reciprocate by withdrawing his comments suggests a potential cooling of hostilities in the Dhaka-8 area. By enforcing internal discipline, the BNP leadership has demonstrated a commitment to centralized control over legal and political confrontations, while the NCP coordinator's response indicates a willingness to move past election-day grievances in favor of a more stable political environment.
