'Up Bangladesh' Facing Imminent Split as Naeem Ahmad Prepares New Political Party
Due to internal disagreements over transitioning the platform into a political party, a faction led by Chief Organizer Naeem Ahmad is set to launch a new political entity shortly. Naeem Ahmad confirmed that they have completed the preliminary organizational work and finalized a draft manifesto to emerge as a mid-right political party. Currently, five names are under consideration for the new party: National Azadi Party (NAP), Justice and Democracy Party (JDP), National Liberty Party (NLP), National Unity Party (NUP), and Bangladesh Ideal Party (BIP). The party aims to focus on a 12-point agenda, including the protection of religious values, implementation of the 'July Charter,' and ensuring free vocational education.
Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds the future of four other top leaders: Convener Ali Ahsan Junaid, Member Secretary Arefin Mohammad Hizbullah, Chief Coordinator Rafe Salman Rifat, and Spokesperson Shahrin Sultana Ira. There are strong rumors that they might join the National Citizen’s Party (NCP), a move Naeem Ahmad described as 'suicidal' given their history of leaving NCP to form Up Bangladesh. Naeem Ahmad expressed frustration over the ambiguous stance of these leaders, stating that their lack of clarity is creating confusion among grassroots activists.
As the platform bifurcates between remaining a pressure group and forming a political party, an official split appears inevitable within the next few days.
