In a statement released through the party's media cell on Wednesday night, February 25, 2026, Islam alleged that by ousting an experienced economist and replacing him with a "controversial businessman," the BNP-led government has officially paved the way for unrestrained looting in the financial sector. He argued that the removal undermines Dr. Mansur's efforts to bring discipline to the banking industry and recover laundered assets, placing the country's economic future in jeopardy.

According to the NCP leader, Dr. Mansur’s initiatives to ensure the autonomy of the central bank and halt money laundering through trade misinvoicing had angered "vested interest groups" within both the BNP and the Awami League. Islam claimed that the recent unrest and "mob culture" witnessed at the central bank headquarters were not spontaneous but rather a coordinated effort by a faction of officials. He specifically named officials such as Masum Billah and Golam Mostafa Shrabon—previously known for their ties to the former Awami League regime—accusing them of rebranding themselves to harass Dr. Mansur’s advisors and create an environment of chaos that forced the Governor's exit.

The Opposition Chief Whip further raised serious allegations against the newly appointed Governor, Md. Mostaqur Rahman, labeling him an "unethical beneficiary." Islam claimed that Rahman is a former loan defaulter who allegedly used political influence to reschedule a loan of 89 crore BDT under special facilities. He stated that placing the nation's economy in the hands of a businessman with such a background is a "fascist decision" that threatens national security. He concluded by urging the government to reconsider and hand over the central bank’s leadership to an honest, independent, and professional economist to prevent a total financial collapse.
