The incident occurred around 1:00 PM in the Prokolpo Bazar area of Chanandi Union while the MP was visiting families affected by post-election violence. Following the assault, which triggered a violent clash between his supporters and the attackers, MP Masud took a position on the road in protest, vowing not to leave until the perpetrators are arrested.

According to local sources, the MP was checking on the welfare of local residents when a group of miscreants launched a sudden ambush. Hannan Masud identified the leader of the attackers as Belal Majhi, a notorious local figure whom he described as a "terrorist and pirate." The MP noted that this same individual was involved in a similar attack on former MP Fazlul Azim in 2018. The news of the attack sparked immediate retaliation from NCP supporters, leading to a series of chase and counter-chase incidents that have left the Prokolpo Bazar area in a state of high tension.

In a direct address from the protest site, MP Hannan Masud demanded the immediate arrest of Belal Majhi and his associates, stating that his sit-in would continue indefinitely until justice is served. He accused the group of trying to suppress the voices of the people who had recently voted for change. Saiful Alam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatiya Police Station, confirmed his presence at the scene and stated that additional police forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation. Authorities are currently negotiating with the MP and working to identify all those involved in the disruption.
