Sarjis Alam Appointed Chairman of NCP's Local Government Election Committee
On Monday night, February 23, 2026, the party's office cell issued a press release announcing the appointment of Sarjis Alam, the party's Chief Organizer for the Northern Region, as the chairman of this critical committee. This move signals the NCP's intent to establish a strong presence in grassroots politics following its participation in the recent national parliamentary elections.
The committee was formed under the direct instructions of NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossen. Abdul Hannan Masud, a senior joint chief coordinator and the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Noakhali-6 constituency, has been appointed as the committee's Member Secretary. Other prominent members of the team include Ariful Islam Adib, Alauddin Mohammad, Tahseen Riaz, and Advocate Manzila Jhuma. Additionally, all divisional organizational secretaries of the party will serve as ex-officio members of the committee to ensure nationwide coordination.
Immediately following the announcement, Sarjis Alam took to social media to urge potential candidates to begin their preparations. He issued a call to action for those aspiring to contest at all levels—from City Corporations and Municipalities to Upazilas, Unions, and Wards—stating that the party is actively looking for dedicated leaders at the local level. This strategic initiative suggests that the NCP, which emerged from the July 2024 mass uprising, is focused on building a robust political foundation by identifying and supporting fresh leadership across every tier of Bangladesh's local government system.
