Jamaat Chief Calls for Constructive Cooperation with Government at Orphans’ Iftar
He made the remarks on Thursday while addressing an iftar event organized in honor of orphans at Mirpur-13 in the capital, arranged by the party’s Dhaka-15 constituency unit.
Dr. Rahman stated that the party would sincerely support and pray for the government if it remains on the right path. However, if deviations occur, Jamaat would resist both inside and outside parliament where necessary. He stressed that both the ruling and opposition parties should work together for national interest, with the greater responsibility resting on the government.
Highlighting Bangladesh as a Muslim-majority country, he urged the new administration to uphold moral and religious values, noting that doing so would bring dignity, while neglecting them could harm both the state and its leaders.
He also warned against any form of persecution based solely on political identity and called on the government to refrain from actions that undermine citizens’ rights.
Responding to a question about the dismissal of four journalists from a private television channel, he termed the move an interference in media freedom and urged the authorities to reconsider. Failure to do so, he said, could signal authoritarian tendencies.
Reaffirming his party’s stance, he said Jamaat would protest alongside the people if injustice affects employees in government, semi-government, autonomous, or private institutions. He reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring an independent judiciary and free media.
The event was chaired by Dhaka North city Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin, with central executive council member Mobarak Hossain attending as a special guest, alongside other party leaders.
