No Room for Extortionists in Debidwar: Hasnat Abdullah Issues Stern Warning
Following his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday night, February 17, 2026, he returned to his constituency and held an exchange of views with small business owners. "If anyone comes to extort money, tie them to a pole and inform the police. There will be no room for extortionists in Debidwar," he declared.
The MP made it clear that no leaseholders (Ijaradars) are permitted to collect tolls outside their designated boundaries. During the meeting, he personally called a local leaseholder over the phone to issue a direct warning: "You have taken the lease for the kitchen market; collect money only within that specific area. If you attempt to extort money elsewhere and the public retaliates, I will not intervene. I will take the strictest measures to maintain law and order."
Hasnat Abdullah instructed traders to detain a specific individual named Shah Alam, who has been accused of illegal toll collection, and hand him over to the police. The local administration and police have been strictly instructed to take immediate legal action against extortionists and those who provide them political shelter. The MP pledged to ensure employment for the families of those martyred during the July Uprising. He announced that these commitments would be fulfilled by March 2026. Since Wednesday morning, Hasnat Abdullah has been personally visiting the homes of 11 martyr families across the upazila to offer his support and condolences.
Hasnat Abdullah’s rapid transition from the oath-taking ceremony to grassroots enforcement highlights his administration's focus on immediate governance and fulfilling electoral promises regarding public safety and reform.
