Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman Warns: No Compromise on "July Charter" Implementation
He delivered this message on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026, while speaking to journalists following a cleanliness drive in the capital's Mirpur area.
The Jamaat chief emphasized that the 2026 national elections were only possible because of the immense sacrifices made during the July 2024 uprising. He stated that the aspirations of that revolution must be the guiding force in parliament and that his party would remain uncompromising both on the streets and in the legislature to achieve these goals. Highlighting his vision for a "Clean Bangladesh," he remarked that state reforms must aim to remove not just physical waste from the streets but also the "administrative and political garbage" accumulated over years of autocratic rule.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, who took his oath as a Member of Parliament on February 17, declared his intention to transform Mirpur into a "model township." He instructed party activists to continue daily cleanliness activities as part of their commitment to public service. Political analysts view his direct leadership as the Opposition Leader as a strategic move by Jamaat-e-Islami to maintain a vigilant and principled stance against the newly formed government, ensuring that the promises of structural reform and the July Charter remain at the forefront of national politics.
