Saidpur incident not an isolated case, says Mahdi Amin; urges EC action
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, he claimed that law enforcement agencies have detained several individuals with cash in different parts of the country. He called on the Election Commission to take appropriate action over the matter.
According to Amin, certain quarters are attempting to create obstacles in the face of what he described as BNP’s “inevitable victory.” Referring to media reports, he noted that the Ameer of Thakurgaon district Jamaat was detained at Saidpur Airport with over Tk 5 million in cash after arriving from Dhaka.
He questioned the purpose of carrying such a large sum at a time when banking and financial transactions remain restricted ahead of the polls. With business activities largely suspended for several days, he said, it is reasonable for the public to seek clarification بشأن the intended use of the money.
Amin further alleged that any attempt to influence the election through financial means would constitute a violation of the electoral code of conduct and undermine the democratic process.
