Jamaat Ameer Urges Vigilance Against Misinformation; Thakurgaon Unit Leader Detained with Cash
In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, February 11, he claimed that a "vested interest group," intimidated by Jamaat’s popularity, is attempting to mislead voters by spreading misinformation. He urged citizens to ignore such propaganda and fearlessly cast their ballots for their preferred candidates and symbols.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman described the act of voting as a "sacred duty" and called for the nation to remain focused on ensuring a free and fair election. "As the nation prepares for a credible election, some are choosing the low path of spreading rumors to create confusion," he wrote, seeking divine assistance for the electoral process.
In a separate development, law enforcement agencies detained Maulana Belal Uddin, the Ameer of Thakurgaon District Jamaat-e-Islami, with a substantial amount of cash at Syedpur Airport around 12:00 PM today. Nilphamari Superintendent of Police (SP) Sheikh Zahidul Islam confirmed that approximately 50 lakh BDT was recovered from a bag in his possession during a search based on a secret tip-off.
Police reported that Maulana Belal Uddin arrived at Syedpur from Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight. During primary interrogation, he claimed the funds were earnings from his personal garment business. However, the discovery of such a large sum of cash on the eve of the election has raised serious questions regarding its intended use. Following his detention, the Jamaat leader reportedly fell ill and was transported to Syedpur 100-bed Hospital under heavy security. A special task force has been formed to investigate the matter further.
