BNP Secretary General Urges ‘Yes’ Vote in Referendum for State Reform
Addressing an electoral roadside meeting at Galimbabur Hat in the Jagannathpur Union of Thakurgaon-1 constituency this morning, Fakhrul asserted that the referendum serves as a litmus test for those who genuinely desire to repair the nation's governance.
During his speech, Fakhrul emphasized that the country requires comprehensive reforms after fifteen years of authoritarian rule. He argued that the current moment presents a historic opportunity for positive change, and the ‘Yes’ vote represents the path toward a transparent and accountable state. "Those who want progress and reform will vote ‘Yes,’ while those who oppose these changes have the option to vote ‘No.’ Since the BNP has long advocated for these reforms through its 31-point charter, we stand firmly with the ‘Yes’ vote," he told the crowd.
The BNP leader also focused on communal harmony, specifically addressing Hindu voters. He reassured the community of his unwavering support, stating that they are equal citizens of Bangladesh and should not consider themselves minorities. He encouraged them to stand firm on their rights, promising that a BNP-led administration would ensure their safety and dignity. Fakhrul highlighted that with only three days left until the February 12 polls, the people must decide whether to return to old political practices or embrace a new, modern direction for the country.
Further promoting the party’s leadership, Fakhrul described BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman as a dynamic and visionary leader capable of steering the nation into a new era. He expressed his desire to see a young Prime Minister who brings fresh ideas and modern thinking to the government. The meeting concluded with a call for unity to ensure the victory of the "Sheaf of Paddy" (Dhaner Shish) symbol in the general election, which is being held simultaneously with the referendum.
