"Corruption Cannot Be Eradicated by Sheltering Loan Defaulters," Warns Jamaat Ameer
Addressing a massive election rally at the DIT Project playground in Badda this morning, Dr. Rahman accused certain political factions of hypocrisy. "On one hand, you sing songs of anti-corruption, and on the other, you dream of seating loan defaulters in Parliament by giving them nominations—this is a contradiction that the nation will not accept," he declared. He emphasized that as long as loan defaulters are sheltered and empowered, the country's wealth will continue to be at risk.
The rally was organized in support of Nahid Islam, the Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the primary candidate of the 11-party alliance for the Dhaka-11 constituency, ahead of the national election scheduled for February 12.
Dr. Rahman urged voters to remain vigilant in the final days before the polls. He claimed that for the past 54 years, a specific class of politicians has looted national resources and laundered money abroad. He expressed confidence that on February 12, the public would use their ballots to show a "red card" to extortionists and corrupt figures, effectively purging them from the political landscape.
Several prominent leaders from the coalition shared the stage:
-
Maulana Mamunul Haque: The Secretary General of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis spoke as a special guest, stating that post-August 5 Bangladesh must reject any new form of autocracy. "The people are hungry for justice (Insaaf), and our 11-party alliance is the vessel to establish that justice," he said.
-
Nahid Islam: In his address, the candidate for Dhaka-11 outlined a development roadmap for the Badda-Rampura area. He also alleged that rival candidates were attempting to "buy votes" with black money and called on the Election Commission to intervene immediately to ensure a level playing field.
The rally concluded with thousands of supporters chanting slogans for the "Daripalla" (Scales) and "Shapla-koli" (Water Lily Bud) symbols, turning the Badda area into a sea of alliance banners. Senior leaders from the 11-party coalition, including the Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat’s Dhaka Metropolitan North unit, were also in attendance.
