Tarique Rahman Pledges University, Medical College, and Airport for Thakurgaon
During the event, he unveiled an ambitious development roadmap for the region, promising that a BNP-led government would establish a full-fledged university, a medical college, a cadet college, and a modern IT hub in Thakurgaon. A central highlight of his speech was the commitment to reopen the long-abandoned Thakurgaon Airport to boost regional connectivity and commerce.
Tarique Rahman emphasized that his vision for the northern districts—including Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, and Panchagarh—is to transform their agrarian foundations into a thriving industrial zone. He pledged to establish agro-based industries to create local employment and specifically mentioned reviving the sugar mills in Panchagarh alongside the development of the tea and silk sectors. To support the youth, he proposed the creation of specialized training centers to transform the local workforce into a technologically skilled generation.
Reflecting on the country’s political landscape, the BNP Chairman criticized the previous 16 years of governance for suppressing voting rights and vowed that the February 12 election would mark a turning point for democracy. He rejected the politics of vengeance, stating that the BNP’s focus remains on a specific, service-oriented plan for the people. Furthermore, he reinforced the importance of communal harmony, asserting that the nation belongs to people of all faiths who fought together in 1971 and 2024, and that religious identity would never be a barrier to justice under his leadership.
The rally, which featured senior leaders including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, drew a historic crowd and has created a festive atmosphere across the district. Following the Thakurgaon assembly, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to continue his campaign tour in Nilphamari as part of his final pre-election push.
