Mizanur Rahman Azhari Comments on Upcoming Election
In a brief message posted on his verified Facebook page on Thursday morning, he urged new voters, stating, "Let the first vote of the youth be in favor of truth and justice." The post quickly went viral, adding a new dimension to the election atmosphere.
In a related development, the Election Commission (EC) has taken a firm stance on monitoring social media campaigns. On Wednesday, the EC issued a directive to all Returning Officers, requiring candidates to submit their account IDs and identification details for any campaigning on platforms like Facebook and YouTube. Furthermore, all digital marketing costs, including ad boosting and sponsorships, must be included within the candidate's official election expenditure limit. The EC warned that any discrepancies would be treated as a violation of the electoral code of conduct.
According to the official schedule, the formal campaign period began on January 22 and will conclude 48 hours before the polls. Voting for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the constitutional referendum on the "July Charter" will take place on February 12, 2026, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This marks the first time in the country's history that a general election and a referendum are being held simultaneously.
Political activity has surged as the election date nears. The BNP has called for a massive rally in Nayapaltan this coming Sunday. To ensure security, law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces have been deployed across the country under the "In Aid to Civil Power" framework.
