A 21-Day Campaign is a First in My Career: Mirza Abbas
Mary's Cathedral in Kakrail on Wednesday (February 4), Abbas noted that covering such a vast area in a limited time has been a challenging yet new experience. Despite the time constraints, he expressed confidence in the overwhelming public support he has received during the brief campaign.
Addressing communal harmony and civic rights, Mirza Abbas asserted that in Bangladesh, no one should be labeled as a "minority" or "majority"; rather, everyone is an equal citizen of the country. He criticized the use of the term "minority" to isolate or demean any community, emphasizing that every citizen's vote carries equal weight and no group is a "vote bank" for anyone. He highlighted that the Islamic teaching of "to you your religion, and to me mine" has fostered a culture of peaceful coexistence in Bangladesh, which must be protected against any malicious attempts to spread hatred.
Referring to the newly redistributed constituency boundaries that brought St. Mary’s Cathedral into his area, Abbas urged the community members not to feel neglected regardless of their numbers. He stated that every single vote is crucial as it encourages others to participate in the democratic process. He called upon people of all faiths—Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian—to support the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol in the upcoming polls. Following the meeting, he conducted a mass campaign in the Kakrail area and scheduled another discussion with flat owners in Shantinagar later in the evening.
