Jamaat Wants to Turn the Nation into Afghanistan: Mirza Fakhrul
Speaking at an election street rally at Lalmia Market in Dholarhat Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Monday afternoon, February 2, he stated, “We do not want to go backward; we want to move forward. Yet, one party is constantly obstructing our progress.”
Referring to the controversial remarks attributed to the Jamaat Ameer, Fakhrul said, “I have heard that the Ameer of Jamaat has made offensive comments against women. I do not know the full extent of its truth, but if he said such things, it is an extreme injustice. The conscious women of Bangladesh will never accept this.” He added that Jamaat seeks to prevent women from working, which is impossible in the current reality. Criticizing the proposal to reduce working hours for female garment workers, he questioned, “They don’t want women to work more than five hours. But if women don’t work, how will they eat? How will society function?”
Highlighting the importance of education, the BNP Secretary General noted that if girls do not attend schools and colleges, they will not secure honorable jobs. He also termed promises by any government to provide money without work as "deceptive." Fakhrul emphasized that Islam grants women their due rights, and the BNP is committed to protecting those rights. He concluded by stating that the BNP’s goal is for men and women in Bangladesh to live with equal rights. The rally was attended by a large number of local BNP leaders, activists, and general citizens.
