Tarique Rahman: BNP to Rebuild Nation with Everyone Regardless of Political Affiliation
He emphasized that this rebuilding process is not the task of a single party; rather, a prosperous Bangladesh will be built by involving people from all walks of life, regardless of their party affiliation, class, or profession. He made these remarks while addressing a massive election rally at the historic Circuit House Ground in Khulna on Monday, February 2, via video link from London.
During his speech, Tarique Rahman strongly criticized controversial remarks regarding women made by Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, a partner in the alliance. Without naming him directly, he said, “A leader of a political party has clearly stated that they do not believe in female leadership. Furthermore, two days ago, he used an abhorrent and distasteful term for working mothers and sisters, which I am ashamed to even repeat. Using such language is a great stigma for our country.” Tarique Rahman alleged that a specific group is using religion for their narrow interests and lacks the respect for the dignity of women, who constitute half of the nation's population.
Addressing the people of Khulna, Tarique Rahman added that as a liberal and modern political party, the BNP believes in individual freedom and women's empowerment. He asserted that those who exploit religion for their own gain and dishonor mothers and sisters can never be friends of the people. He urged voters to remain vigilant and give a fitting reply to such forces through the ballot in the February 12 election. The rally was attended by top leaders of the Khulna city and district units of the BNP, and the entire ground erupted in slogans following his speech.
