'We Were Oppressed, We Will Never Become Oppressors': Jamaat Amir
"We do not wish to see a corrupt government in the future. We want to build a humanitarian Bangladesh based on justice," he stated as the chief guest at a massive election rally held on Saturday, January 31, at the Chauddagram Pilot High School grounds in Cumilla.
Reflecting on the persecution faced during the previous government's tenure, he said, "Despite enduring immense atrocities, we did not flee the country. We remained with the people and will continue to do so. We were oppressed ourselves, so we understand the pain of the marginalized. I promise the people of this country: we will never become oppressors (Zalim)."
Encouraging women to be brave, the Jamaat Amir urged them not to succumb to any "boogeyman" tactics or fear. "Cast your vote for justice without hesitation. If Jamaat comes to power, our mothers and sisters will be the safest in the country," he claimed. Addressing the youth, he added, "We don't want to just hand out unemployment benefits to keep the youth idle; rather, we want to create employment and turn them into the architects of nation-building."
Regarding religious freedom and the education system, he asserted that religious freedom for all would be guaranteed, and no one would be allowed to obstruct anyone’s worship. He also criticized the current "fragile" education system, stating it is impossible to lead the nation forward with it and promising radical reforms if elected.
The rally, presided over by Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher, also featured speeches from Jatiya Nagorik Party Convener Nahid Islam, Khelafat Majlish Amir Mamunul Haque, and DUCSU VP Sadiq Kayem, along with other central and local leaders. From early morning, thousands of activists joined the assembly in processions from various unions of Chauddagram.
