The announcement was made during an emergency press briefing at around midnight on Wednesday, January 28, at a temporary party office in the Baby Stand area of Habiganj city.

Led by Habiganj District Senior Joint Member Secretary Palash Mahmud, the resigning leaders alleged that during the committee formation process, genuine soldiers of the July Revolution were excluded in favor of associates of the former fascist regime. They further claimed that while the NCP was founded on the promise of "middle-ground politics," it abandoned this stance within just two months to join various political alliances. Complaints regarding candidate nominations and corruption within different party tiers were also raised.

"We joined the NCP with the vision of building a 'New Bangladesh,'" Palash Mahmud stated. "However, the current structure neglects the July fighters and seeks to create a 'loyalist class' by sidelining dedicated grassroots workers. Under these disappointing circumstances, it is no longer tenable for us to continue our roles."

The other resigning leaders include Joint Convenors Md. Nurul Haque Tipu and Adv. Md. Abdul Wahid Monir; Joint Member Secretaries Sirajul Haque Sajib, Sheikh Rubel Ahmed, Salma Hasan, and Sanjoy Das; and members Md. Harun Miah, Md. Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Adv. Md. Jasim Uddin, AHM Shafiul Alam Khan, Md. Zahid Miah, and Sofayel Ahmed.

The collective resignation letter has already been forwarded to the NCP central committee. When asked about their future plans, Palash Mahmud noted they would remain private citizens for now but may consider joining a future middle-ground party that truly upholds the spirits of 1971 and 2024.
