Jamaat Petitions EC to Remove 'Scales' Symbol from Two Constituencies
A formal application, signed by Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar, was submitted to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on January 23.
According to the application, Jamaat had initially nominated Md. Amjad Hossain for Narsingdi-2 and Md. Abu Naser for Chattogram-8. However, under a strategic alliance agreement, the party has decided to concede these seats to National Citizen Party (NCP) candidates. Golam Sarwar (Sarwar Tushar) will contest from Narsingdi-2, while Md. Jobairul Hasan Arif will run for Chattogram-8 on behalf of the alliance.
The party explained that since the final alliance agreement was reached after the official withdrawal deadline, the Jamaat nominees could not pull out their candidacies in time. To prevent voter confusion and ensure the victory of the alliance-backed candidates, Jamaat urged the EC to take technical measures to ensure the "Scales" symbol does not appear on the final ballots for these two seats.
