In a Facebook post shared late Tuesday night, the 78-year-old leader noted that the dream of social change he first embraced as a student 60 years ago remains his primary motivation for serving the nation today.

Fakhrul highlighted the development milestones of his birthplace, Thakurgaon, during the BNP’s tenure, citing visible transformations in agriculture, education, and infrastructure. He specifically recalled the 2005 Barind multipurpose irrigation project, the establishment of technical educational institutions, and rural electrification efforts that strengthened the local economy. He also noted that under his leadership, all private schools and colleges in Thakurgaon were brought under the MPO scheme, ensuring financial security for the teaching community.

Addressing his personal sacrifices, the veteran politician mentioned that he has been imprisoned 11 times over the last 17 years during his struggle for democracy. "What I have gained or achieved is known only to Allah and the people of this country, but I have never compromised on my principles," he stated. He expressed deep gratitude to his wife and two daughters for their unwavering support. His eldest daughter, Mirza Shamaruh, is currently a senior scientist in Australia, while his younger daughter, Mirza Safaruh, teaches in Dhaka. A former teacher himself with a degree in Economics from Dhaka University, Fakhrul left academia in 1986 to enter politics formally.

Concluding with a wish for the next generation, he described today's youth as his own children. He shared his enduring vision for a happy, democratic Bangladesh where the future generation can live in prosperity and peace.
