Jamaat Ameer Vows Safe Society for Women and End to Extortion
Speaking at a massive election rally at the Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia on Monday, January 26, the Ameer remarked that the party lacks the funds to "buy locks" to keep women indoors, emphasizing that Islam prioritizes their security and dignity over restriction.
The Ameer announced specific plans for women's mobility, including the introduction of dedicated bus services in major cities to ensure safe travel for mothers and sisters. Addressing the post-August 5 landscape, he expressed deep regret over the rise of "lawsuit business" and extortion, specifically alleging that 5,000 BDT is being extorted from every rice truck leaving Kushtia’s wholesale markets. He urged those involved in extortion due to poverty to return to a righteous path, even offering to share his own provisions to prevent further oppression of the public.
Turning to regional development, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman criticized the historical mismanagement of river dredging budgets for the Gorai and Padma rivers, asserting that funds often disappear before reaching the water. Under the slogan "Save the River, Save the Soil," he pledged a comprehensive dredging initiative to protect local agriculture and the environment. He also promised to reopen closed factories, including the Kushtia Sugar Mill, citing the integrity of former Industries Minister Motiur রহমান Nizami as proof that religious scholars can successfully lead industrial revolutions.
The rally, which saw supporters gathering since dawn despite heavy fog, was presided over by Acting District Ameer Abdul Gafur. During the event, the Ameer formally introduced the party's candidates for the four constituencies of Kushtia: Belal Uddin (Kushtia-1), Abdul Gafur (Kushtia-2), Mufti Amir Hamza (Kushtia-3), and Afzal Hossain (Kushtia-4). High-level leaders from the 11-party alliance and central leaders of Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir were also in attendance to show solidarity ahead of the February 12 polls.
